UNAMA: Taliban's detention of girls spreads intimidation and undermines trust

This institution, on Monday (30 Saratan), in a note on the social media platform X, requested that the Taliban abolish policies that restrict the freedom of women and girls.

UNAMA emphasized that the detention of women for not adhering to the Taliban's preferred dress code leads to increased intimidation and further isolation of women.

The United Nations Mission stated that, following the publication of reports regarding the detention of women, they have been in contact with Taliban authorities to obtain more information on this matter.

This UN-affiliated institution stressed that such actions, by creating an atmosphere of fear, undermine public trust.

This comes as reports indicate that since Wednesday, Taliban morality police have detained dozens of women and girls on the pretext of "immodest dressing" and transferred them to their security zones.

The United Nations Mission in Afghanistan, in a statement expressing concern over the detention of women by the Taliban, has criticized this action.
