Taliban announce expulsion of around 1.8 million Afghan refugees from Iran

The ministry, on Wednesday (8 Asad), stated at the Taliban media center that during the current year, 184,459 migrants have been deported from Pakistan.

According to the Taliban, during the same period, five thousand individuals have also been deported from Turkey.

The Taliban further claimed that in the past year, 9,951 Afghan citizens who were imprisoned in Iran and Pakistan have been released and returned to the country.

Previously, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) stated in a recent report that former government officials, former military personnel, civil activists, journalists, and human rights defenders who are forcibly returned to Afghanistan face retaliation, torture, and detention by the Taliban.

This comes as, in recent months, the deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey has significantly increased.

The Taliban Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation announced that in the past three months, approximately one million and 800 thousand Afghan migrants have been deported from Iran.
