The director of "Radio Khoshal" in Ghazni was released from Taliban custody after three months.

On Saturday, August 2, the center, while welcoming Sulaiman Rahel’s release, stated that the fundamental rights of this journalist, who was arrested and tried for publishing reports about the social and economic issues of the people, have been severely violated.


Quoting its sources, the Afghanistan Journalists Center added that Sulaiman Rahel was released on Thursday, July 31, after serving three months in Ghazni’s central prison.


According to the center, Sulaiman Rahel, the director of Khushal Radio, was arrested on May 5 of this year by the Taliban’s intelligence agency on charges of writing about the social problems and challenges of the people. On May 22, he was sentenced to three months in prison by the Taliban’s primary urban court in Ghazni on charges of propaganda against the group.


The Afghanistan Journalists Center emphasized that the Taliban, by arresting and depriving this journalist of his freedom, have seriously violated his fundamental, professional, and human rights.


The center has called on the Taliban to immediately release other detained journalists and media workers and allow them to continue their professional work without threats, pressure, or fear.


According to the organization’s statistics, at least 10 journalists and media workers are currently detained by the Taliban or are serving their sentences.

The Afghanistan Journalists Center announced that Sulaiman Rahel, the director of Khushal Radio in Ghazni, has been released after spending three months in Taliban prison.
