Richard Bennett: Taliban cannot hide human rights violations from the world

He emphasized that the Taliban's actions, despite threats, intimidation, and repressive measures, cannot remain hidden from the global community, and their efforts to conceal their actions have so far been unsuccessful.

On Friday, 4th of Mizan, during a side event on the sidelines of the United Nations, Mr. Bennett, referring to the Taliban's lack of cooperation with international monitors, including his own mission, stated that the group is preventing human rights organizations from entering Afghanistan.

The UN Special Rapporteur added that despite the stifling atmosphere, the suppression of civil society, and the elimination of dissenting voices from the public sphere, the Taliban's actions are under the scrutiny of the international community.

These statements come amid numerous reports of violations of freedom of expression, restrictions on women's rights, and the suppression of civil activists in Afghanistan.

Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Afghanistan, says that the Taliban, by closing doors to international human rights organizations including the UN's special missions are attempting to prevent the documentation of widespread human rights violations Afghanistan.
