Adam Bueller's trip to Kabul; Taliban release US citizen

The ministry stated in a newsletter published on Sunday, 6th of Mizan, that Adam Boiler, Donald Trump’s special representative for hostage affairs, traveled to Kabul at the head of a U.S. delegation.

In images released by the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it can be seen that Adam Boiler, during this unexpected visit, met with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister. The images also show Sebastian Gorka, Trump’s advisor on counterterrorism, and an Arab official in attendance.

This is Adam Boiler’s third trip to Kabul. In his two previous visits, Zalmay Khalilzad accompanied him; however, this time, Khalilzad is not part of the delegation.

Nevertheless, Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. representative for Afghanistan peace, wrote in a message on Sunday, hours before Amir Amiri’s release, that the Taliban have come to the conclusion that holding U.S. citizens, instead of being an advantage, has become a burden for the group.

He described the issue of prisoners and hostages as the most significant obstacle to improving relations between the U.S. and the Taliban.

Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department, in a statement confirming Amir Amiri’s release, described the move as “an important step” but emphasized that “other U.S. citizens continue to be unjustly detained in Afghanistan.”

The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs that simultaneously with the visit of a U.S. delegation led by Adam Boiler, another U.S. citizen named Amir Amiri has been released from the group’s custody.
