Homeland Security Secretary: National Guard shooting suspect radicalized after entering US

This American official, in an interview with NBC and ABC networks, said that initial investigations indicate Rahmanullah Laknawala, a 29-year-old Afghan immigrant, became radicalized during his stay in the state of Washington.

He added that investigative teams are working to gather more information from the suspect's family members and other sources.

This shooting occurred on Wednesday, a few blocks away from the White House. In this incident, one National Guard soldier was killed and another was seriously injured. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has identified Laknawala as the main suspect.

Following this event, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, described the background check process for Afghan immigrants and other foreign nationals during Joe Biden's administration as insufficient, even though Laknawala had received asylum during Trump's presidency.

Trump told reporters on Sunday aboard Air Force One that his administration might suspend the acceptance of refugee applications for a long time. He stated: "There is no specific time limit; but it might be a long suspension. We have enough problems; we don't want more people coming in."

Kristi Noem, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, announced on Sunday that the Afghan immigrant accused of shooting two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., likely became radicalized after entering the United States.
