Pressure on migrants increases; At least 40 Afghan asylum seekers detained in Türkiye

The Turkish Coast Guard announced in a statement on Saturday, 4th of Asad, that these individuals were identified and apprehended in the city of Çanakkale.


The statement noted that 20 children are among those detained, and these refugees have been transferred to a migrant detention center.


According to Turkish media reports, this group of migrants, who intended to illegally enter Greece’s Lesbos Island, was identified during an operation by the country’s Coast Guard.


The Turkish police have stated that the process of investigation and necessary actions related to this incident has begun.


Based on official statistics, in 2024, more than 230 undocumented migrants have been identified, detained, and deported across Turkey.


This comes as Pakistan and Iran have also significantly intensified the detention and deportation of migrants in recent weeks.

Turkish media have reported that 35 Afghan refugees were detained in a rubber boat off the coast of Ayvacık.
