Yaqub Mojahid indirectly accused Hebatollah Akhundzadeh of extremism

In an interview with the BBC, the Taliban’s Defense Minister stated: “Islam is a religion of moderation; but some lean toward extremism, and others toward leniency. Those who seek ease for themselves but impose hardship on others are outside the bounds of Islamic moderation.”

Mujahid also confirmed the existence of disagreements within the Taliban leadership but emphasized that these disputes are not about maintaining power.

He described the killing of Ayman al-Zawahiri in Kabul as a “claim” and stated that the Taliban, adhering to the Doha Agreement, will not allow Afghanistan to pose a threat to the security of other countries.

Meanwhile, Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, wrote in an article that approximately 20 international terrorist groups are currently present in Afghanistan. According to him, Russian estimates indicate that these groups collectively have over 23,000 militants in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.

This comes as the United Nations Security Council has confirmed the presence and activities of terrorist groups, including ISIS-Khorasan, al-Qaeda, and Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan in Afghanistan, though the Taliban have consistently denied these claims.

Yaqoob Mujahid, the Taliban’s Defense Minister, in rare remarks, implicitly accused Hibatullah Akhundzada of extremism and harshness without directly naming him.
