World Bank: Afghanistan's exports increased in October 2025 despite border closures

According to this report, Afghanistan's exports in this month grew by 13 percent compared to the same month last year and by 3.7 percent compared to the previous year, reaching a total of $267 million.

The World Bank cited the expansion of Afghanistan's exports to India and Uzbekistan as the reason for this increase. The report states that, despite the halt in trade with Pakistan due to border conflicts, exports have successfully continued to India and Uzbekistan.

Additionally, the peak season for harvesting agricultural products and relatively low domestic inflation have been assessed as other factors in strengthening competitiveness and compensating for the losses resulting from the closure of the Pakistan route.

According to statistics, food exports in October reached $238.4 million, showing an 8.6 percent increase compared to last year. These figures indicate strong regional demand for Afghanistan's products.

Following recent clashes between Pakistan and the Taliban, Islamabad closed border crossings, which led to a more-than-one-month halt in trade and transit between the two countries. In response, the Taliban's deputy economic minister banned imports of medicine from Pakistan and called on traders to seek alternative transit routes. After this decision, the Taliban's Minister of Industry and Commerce traveled to Iran to expand trade relations.

At the same time, the Taliban announced the start of exporting Afghanistan's fresh agricultural products and fruits via the Hairatan port route to Uzbekistan and Central Asia.

Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, expressing concern over the consequences of the border closures, has once again called for the reopening of the crossings and emphasized that the potential for bilateral trade between the two countries is more than $5 billion annually; however, due to repeated disruptions, the actual trade volume has declined to less than $1 billion.

The World Bank has announced in a recent report that Afghanistan's exports in October experienced a significant increase, despite the closure of Pakistan's borders.
