Former Army Chief of Staff: Taliban prisons are filled with former soldiers

He clarified that the Taliban detain, torture, and imprison these former military personnel on charges of being members of opposing fronts.

Mr. Alizai, in an interview published on Monday by Long War Journal, emphasized that the prisons in the provinces of Helmand, Kandahar, northern regions, Ghazni, Nangarhar, and Kunar are full of former security forces.

Expressing concern, he added that former military personnel deported from Iran and Pakistan face threats, detention, and torture by the Taliban.

In another part of his remarks, Alizai warned that Al-Qaeda and ISIS groups have strengthened in Afghanistan and continue their activities.

General Hibatullah Alizai, the former Chief of Staff of the Afghan army, has stated that the Taliban have filled their prisons with officers and military personnel from the previous government.
