Taliban foreign ministry official: Afghanistan is not in debt and keeps its weapons

In a statement, he wrote that Afghanistan, “unlike some countries, is not indebted” and has the ability to safeguard the weapons in its possession.

According to him, those who express concern about the presence of these weapons in Afghanistan should rather worry about their own situation and “not miss the opportunity to sell their own arms.”

This stance came after officials in Pakistan spoke about exploring the purchase of some of the leftover weapons in Afghanistan. The issue has raised concerns at both the regional and international levels regarding the fate of these military supplies.

After the withdrawal of U.S. forces in August 2021, a large stockpile of advanced weapons and military equipment fell into the hands of the Taliban. Many countries have repeatedly warned about the security implications of these weapons remaining in Afghanistan.

Mohammad Naeem Wardak, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Taliban, has rejected reports about the possible sale of leftover U.S. weapons in Afghanistan, saying the country has no need to sell its arms.
