US President stresses cooperation in meeting with new New York mayor

Trump said after the meeting: "We love this city and want it to be in good shape. I congratulate the mayor; he emerged triumphantly from a very tough competition."

He, who had previously criticized Mamdani multiple times, this time called him a "reasonable" figure and added: "There may be disagreements; but I believe he can do very good things. I met with a reasonable person, someone who wants New York to be great again and is focused on that very goal."

Zohran Mamdani also expressed satisfaction with the meeting, stating that the focus of the discussion was the everyday economic problems of New York citizens.

He explained: "We talked about affordable housing, rising rents, food prices, and utility services. We had a detailed discussion about the ways that cause people to be evicted from their homes. I'm satisfied with this meeting and eager to collaborate on providing effective solutions."

According to reports, a significant portion of the discussions was devoted to the housing crisis, rising living costs, and economic pressures on New York residents; issues that both sides emphasized the urgent need to address.

The first meeting between Trump and Mamdani is seen as carrying a message of cooperation despite political differences; a matter that could be encouraging for millions of New Yorkers at the start of the new city administration period.

Donald Trump, President of the United States, adopted a conciliatory tone during his first meeting with Zohran Mamdani, the newly elected Mayor of New York, at the White House, describing his victory in the election as a "remarkable success against powerful rivals."
