Human rights groups call for immediate transfer of 2,000 Afghan refugees from Pakistan to Germany

According to German media reports, these refugees in Pakistan are at serious risk of deportation to Afghanistan under Taliban rule.

Amnesty International, Reporters Without Borders, the Caritas charity association, the German Bar Association, and International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War are among the signatories to this request.

In a letter addressed to Johann Wadephul, the Foreign Minister, and Alexander Dobrindt, the Interior Minister of Germany, they emphasized the need to reduce the duration of security checks and expedite the visa issuance process, and called for the immediate evacuation of Afghan citizens with promises of acceptance.

A section of this letter states that Germany must expand its cooperation with Pakistan and civil society organizations to prevent the detention and forced deportation of refugees and to provide them with the opportunity for safe exit.

These organizations have also stated that Germany has a special responsibility toward these groups; since many of them are directly threatened due to activities related to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in Afghanistan.

This request comes as the German Interior Minister had previously stated that the rapid transfer of refugees is not possible due to security considerations. At the same time, reports have been published indicating that Pakistani police have raided the residences of Afghan refugees in recent days and returned some of them to their country.

A number of international human rights organizations have sent a letter to senior German officials calling for the immediate transfer of more than two thousand Afghan refugees from Pakistan to the country.
