Public Violence; Taliban Flog Two, Including a Woman, in Takhar

The court stated in a newsletter on Wednesday, 1st Asad, that these individuals were punished for "fleeing from home" and "facilitating escape from home."

The newsletter stated that these individuals were punished with 39 lashes each, by the verdict of the primary court of Khwaja Bahauddin district in Takhar.

This action takes place despite repeated calls by the United Nations and human rights organizations to halt corporal punishments.

Nevertheless, the Taliban continue to insist on implementing their strict laws.

Over the past months, numerous reports of similar punishments being carried out in various provinces of Afghanistan have been published, an action that has sparked widespread international concern.

The Taliban's Supreme Court has announced that two individuals, including a woman, have been publicly whipped in Takhar on charges of illicit relationships.
