Amnesty International: Israel is pursuing a policy of “deliberately starving Palestinians” in Gaza

This human rights institution has announced that it has gathered new evidence indicating that the consequences of starvation and disease in Gaza “have not been accidental and are the direct result of policies designed over the past 22 months.”

Erika Guevara-Rosas, Senior Director of Research and Advocacy at Amnesty International, has stated: “As Israeli authorities threaten to launch a ground invasion of Gaza City, our evidence shows that the humanitarian situation goes beyond the reported crises and reflects the failure of the international system to respond to this situation.”

Israel has repeatedly denied similar accusations regarding the use of “starvation as a weapon of war” and has stated that the imposed restrictions were aimed at weakening Palestinian armed groups and ensuring the security of Israeli citizens; however, reports indicate the contrary to Israel’s claims.

Amnesty International, in a report, states that Israel has implemented a policy in the Gaza Strip that, according to the organization, “leads to widespread starvation of Palestinian civilians.”
