Hebatullah Akhundzada orders the closure of girls' religious schools in Afghanistan

Al Arabiya wrote on Wednesday (29 Asad) in a report that this decision was made during the Taliban's recent meeting in Kandahar, and based on it, the Taliban’s Ministries of Education and Higher Education have been tasked with gradually halting the enrollment of girls in religious schools.

The reason for this decision is said to be the Taliban leader’s concern about the teaching of modern sciences, including mathematics, natural sciences, and languages in these schools; an issue that, in his view, has caused religious schools to only bear the name of being religious.

Al Arabiya also wrote that the atmosphere of this Taliban cabinet meeting was highly controversial and tense, with some group members directly criticizing the leader, considering this approach a cause of “internal anger and strong international community reactions.”

However, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s spokesperson, denied this matter in an interview with Afaaq News Agency.

This comes as human rights organizations, foreign governments, and the United Nations have repeatedly condemned the Taliban’s treatment of women and girls in Afghanistan; however, the Taliban has not yet backed down from its stance.

Al Arabiya has reported that Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban, has issued an order to close girls' religious schools.
