Taliban call on UN representatives to cooperate in coordinating aid for earthquake victims

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban, has announced that the number of victims of the Kunar earthquake has reached more than 1,400, with more than three thousand others injured. Additionally, more than five thousand homes have been completely or partially destroyed.


In addition to Kunar, the provinces of Nangarhar, Laghman, Nuristan, and Panjshir have also suffered human and financial losses. Reports indicate that local hospitals are full and that victims are being buried en masse. Eyewitnesses have said that a number of homeless children have spent the recent nights in the open air.


Taliban officials say that helicopters are being used to transport the injured from mountainous and hard-to-reach areas. The earthquake occurred on Sunday night near Asadabad, the center of Kunar province, and its tremors were felt as far as Kabul and parts of Pakistan.

The Taliban's Ministry of Economy has announced that, to expedite the process of providing aid to those affected by the recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, a joint meeting with representatives of the United Nations has been held in Kabul.
