Amnesty International: Iran executed more than 1,000 people in 2025

This figure represents the highest number of annual executions in Iran in at least the past 15 years.

According to this report, in less than the first 9 months of the current year, the number of individuals executed by Iranian authorities has exceeded the total of 972 executions from the previous year.

The report states that since the "Woman, Life, Freedom" uprising in 2022, officials of the Islamic Republic have increased the use of the death penalty as a tool for governmental repression and silencing protests. At the same time, executions for drug-related crimes have also seen a significant rise.

Additionally, following the escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel after Israel's military attacks on Iranian soil in June 2025, Iranian officials have intensified the use of the death penalty under the justification of "national security."

Amnesty International has called for the immediate halt of executions in Iran and has urged other governments to apply immediate diplomatic pressure to compel Islamic Republic officials to stop all scheduled executions.

Amnesty International has announced in a report that the Islamic Republic of Iran executed more than 1,000 individuals in 2025.
