An Afghan citizen working with American forces has been arrested in the United States.

On Wednesday, 1 Asad, Reuters stated in a report that the individual, under the pseudonym "Zia Gulzar," was detained by immigration officials in his state of residence.


According to the report, Zia was detained by armed and masked U.S. immigration officials after attending an official appointment in Connecticut to follow up on his green card application and was transferred to another location.


Based on the provided information, Zia had received humanitarian residency due to threats from the Taliban, and his lawyer emphasized that he has no criminal record.


The detention of this U.S. forces collaborator has also prompted reactions from members of Congress. Three senators described Zia's detention as a violation of the most basic human principles and called for his immediate release.


According to statistics, more than 70,000 Afghan citizens migrated to the U.S. following the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan in 2021.

Reuters news agency reported that an Afghan translator who collaborated with U.S. forces during the war has been detained despite possessing legal residency documents.
