Mike Waltz confirmed by Senate as US ambassador to the United Nations

On Friday (September 19), in a post on his account on the social media platform X, he thanked Donald Trump and the U.S. Senate for their trust and support.

In May of this year, Mike Waltz stepped down from his position as National Security Advisor for undisclosed reasons, and Trump also confirmed his resignation without providing further explanation.

However, several U.S. media outlets reported that the primary reason for Waltz’s resignation was an unprecedented security incident. According to these reports, an American journalist had accidentally gained access to a private chat group of senior government officials, including J.D. Vance, Trump’s deputy, on the Signal app—a group used for coordinating military operation planning in Yemen.

The White House confirmed the incident at the time, explaining that an inadvertent error had occurred in adding an unrelated individual to the group. Although the incident was described as seemingly technical and administrative, many political observers considered it a significant blow to the credibility of Trump’s national security team and cited it as the main reason for Waltz’s dismissal or resignation.

Mike Waltz, former U.S. National Security Advisor, was selected as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations with the confirmation of the Senate.
