Refugee advocate: Revoking temporary protection status for Afghan citizens is an injustice

The council warned that revoking TPS could lead to persecution of immigrants in their own country.

Council President Hussam Ayloush described the move as “cruel,” adding that many Afghan citizens have risked their lives supporting US forces in Afghanistan.

He said the policies would have a negative impact on people fleeing war and persecution.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently announced that TPS status has been revoked for thousands of Afghan and Cameroonian citizens, and that another 14,600 Afghan citizens are at risk of deportation.

The California Council on American-Islamic Relations called the Trump administration's decision to revoke the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) of citizens of Afghanistan and Cameroon unfair and called on the US Congress to prevent the deportation of these people.
