OCHA: Budget shortfall may hamper aid delivery in Afghanistan

OCHA stated in a note on X on (Monday, November 15) that this disruption could occur between the months of October and December of the current calendar year.

According to this office, the funding shortfall will have a direct impact on critical aid, including food, education, water, and health services.

This United Nations-affiliated body has emphasized that immediate and sustainable funding is critically essential to ensure the effective delivery of basic humanitarian assistance.

Meanwhile, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has announced that in the past week, ahead of the onset of winter, it distributed winter aid to nearly 1,000 families in Kabul.

According to this body, the needy families received heaters and a quantity of wood to warm their homes.

One recent returnee from Pakistan and father of 9 children expressed gratitude for this aid, saying: "This assistance came at the right time and will be very useful for us in the upcoming winter."

This commissioner allocates a portion of its humanitarian aid to vulnerable families each year with the arrival of winter.

The World Food Programme had previously warned that hunger has engulfed Afghanistan, with one in every five people facing food shortages.

This program has requested $555 million to support the most vulnerable families in Afghanistan.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that due to a funding shortage, humanitarian aid delivery in Afghanistan may face disruptions.
