The final match of the tournament was held on Sunday evening, July 27, at the «St. Jakob-Park» stadium in Basel, Switzerland.


The two teams ended regular time with a 1-1 draw, and England ultimately triumphed with a 3-1 victory in the penalty shootout.


Spain took the lead in the first half with a header goal by Mariona Caldentey, but in the second half, Alessia Russo equalized with a spectacular header.


Sarina Wiegman’s players controlled the game in extra time and, with a cohesive performance, took the match to penalties. In the penalty shootout, Hannah Hampton, England’s goalkeeper, played a key role by saving two shots. Chloe Kelly converted the final penalty to secure the championship for England.
