Forced marriage, failed suicide and escape; Badakhshan girl arrives in Turkey

According to sources, the family of “Fereshta” (a pseudonym) decided to marry her to a man twice her age. After resisting and being threatened with forced marriage, she attempted suicide by consuming poison (rat poison); however, she survived.

Sources added that after this incident, “Fereshta’s” mother decided to flee with her at night. They first went to Iran, where “Fereshta” (a pseudonym) began working as an apprentice in a hair salon; but with the outbreak of war between Iran and Israel and increasing insecurity, the salon’s business declined, and conditions became tougher.

The source stated that despite these challenges, “Fereshta,” with great effort and her mother’s support, managed to reach Turkey. She is now working in a women’s hair salon in Turkey and is striving to build a new life for herself.

Sources say that “Fereshta’s” mother returned to Afghanistan after some time.

Local sources in Badakhshan say that a teenage girl in Keshm district of Badakhshan province, after opposing a forced marriage, fled Afghanistan illegally with her mother and is now living in Turkey.
