Taliban restricts use of smartphones for university employees and professors

According to the sources, this decision was made during a meeting of the Ministry of Higher Education’s Leadership Council, with the stated aim of “preventing unnecessary distractions and simplifying administrative affairs.”

Based on this directive, employees in grade four and lower positions are required to refrain from bringing their smartphones to the workplace. Additionally, professors and senior officials have been asked to gradually reduce their use of these devices.

A section of the official document states that “none of the professors or lower-ranking employees in higher education institutions are permitted to use smartphones within universities.”

It is worth noting that Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban, had previously requested the group’s scholars to find a “Sharia-compliant way” to restrict the use of smartphones.

Sources in the Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education confirm that the ministry has recently issued a new directive, according to which administrative staff and professors at universities are no longer allowed to use smartphones during working hours.
