UN: High temperatures affect large parts of Afghanistan

OCHA stated on Sunday, 5 Asad, through a published newsletter that June was marked by below-average rainfall and above-average temperatures across Afghanistan.

The office added that the provinces of Badghis, Ghor, Faryab, Sar-e Pul, Samangan, Baghlan, Takhar, Badakhshan, Daykundi, Bamyan, Parwan, and Kabul have been affected by extreme heat.

The report states that by the end of May, a significant reduction in soil moisture negatively impacted wheat productivity, and by the end of June, the water level from snowmelt across Afghanistan was reported to be widely below average.

OCHA also noted that the rainy season in Afghanistan began earlier than usual this year, and it is predicted that rainfall in many areas will be above average, which could to some extent alleviate the severity of the drought.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that by the end of June this year, high temperatures have affected large parts of Afghanistan.
