Public violence; Taliban flog 15 people in two provinces

The court stated in a press release issued on Wednesday (November 11) that these individuals received between 30 and 39 lashes in public.

The press release stated that a woman and 13 men in Lal Pur district of Nangarhar, and one other person in Saghari district of Ghor province, were flogged on charges including elopement, illicit relations, theft, sale of alcoholic beverages, and moral corruption.

Meanwhile, the Taliban court in Kabul had also flogged 17 people on October 7 for charges including the sale and smuggling of narcotic drugs, alcoholic beverages, and hashish. The Taliban's Supreme Court announced that these individuals were sentenced to 10 to 39 lashes and from six months to seven years in prison.

Since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban has repeatedly punished individuals in public for various charges, including theft, extramarital sexual relations, sodomy, and drug smuggling.

These actions have consistently faced sharp criticism from human rights organizations and the United Nations.

These organizations say that flogging and other forms of corporal punishment in public constitute torture and violate Afghanistan's international commitments on human rights. They also emphasize that the Taliban's rulings are issued and enforced without a transparent judicial process.

The Taliban's Supreme Court has announced that a woman and 14 men have been flogged in the provinces of Nangarhar and Ghor on various charges, including theft and the sale of alcoholic beverages.
