Continuation of consecutive earthquakes in eastern Afghanistan

This event is occurring while search and rescue operations following the deadly earthquake of August 31 in Kunar Province are still ongoing.


According to Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Taliban, in that incident, more than two thousand and twenty people were killed and another three thousand six hundred and forty were injured.


He adds that initial aid has been delivered to the affected areas.


The deadly earthquake on August 31 had devastated the Mazār Valley of Noorgal District and parts of Sāwki, Chapah Dara, and Manugi in Kunar Province.

In the past 24 hours, four consecutive earthquakes have shaken eastern Afghanistan. According to information from the U.S. Geological Survey, the strongest aftershock last night was recorded at 5.6 on the Richter scale.
