Drought in Afghanistan; UN: Faryab suffers most

OCHA wrote on Sunday, 9 Sunbula, in a message on the social media platform X that reduced vegetation cover, lack of rainfall, and low soil moisture have brought Faryab to a critical stage.

According to this organization, the livelihoods and food security of thousands of families are now at risk;

as the economy of this province heavily relies on agriculture and livestock.

The United Nations and its affiliated organizations have previously warned about the consequences of drought in Afghanistan and called for urgent actions to address climate change. These organizations have emphasized that without attention and effective programs, the humanitarian crisis caused by drought in the country will intensify.

Afghanistan is among the countries that are highly vulnerable to climate change. Consecutive droughts in recent years, especially in the northern regions, have led to a severe reduction in agricultural and livestock products, threatening the food security of millions of people.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that Faryab province in Afghanistan has suffered the most damage from the drought crisis over the past five years.
