Former Taliban official: No ruler can trade foreign military presence in Afghanistan

Mr. Zaeef wrote on Saturday, 29 Sunbula, in a message on his X account that Donald Trump has a mistaken perception of Afghanistan.

He added that history has shown no power has been able to divert Afghanistan from its path of neutrality and unilaterally control it, and such attempts have always led to the country’s destruction.

Abdulsalam Zaeef claimed that the United States is seeking to return to Afghanistan to prepare itself for World War III; however, in his view, such expectations from Afghanistan are misplaced and futile.

He emphasized: “The United States will try to exploit the land and resources of the [Persian] Gulf and will also attempt to infiltrate Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Azerbaijan to bring the region under the military and intelligence coverage of China, Russia, and Iran.”

According to him, Afghanistan remained neutral in World War I and World War II and will remain neutral in World War III as well.

These statements come as Donald Trump, the U.S. President, spoke on Thursday during a joint press conference with Keir Starmer, the British Prime Minister, about efforts to retake the Bagram base.

The Wall Street Journal also reported, citing its sources, that the United States is in talks with the Taliban to return to the Bagram base with the renewed presence of American forces.

Trump also confirmed that he is in negotiations with the Taliban to regain control of the Bagram airbase.

Abdulsalam Zaeef, the former Taliban ambassador to Pakistan, says no ruler can negotiate regarding the presence of foreign forces on Afghan soil.
