Afghan refugees deported; Iranian official warns of labor shortage

On Sunday (26 Mordad), in an interview with IRIB, he stated that most employers preferred to hire Afghan migrants.

Pourjamshidian added that before the start of the deportation operations, more than 6.5 million Afghan citizens were present in Iran, of whom approximately two million had entered illegally.

According to him, the main issue with the migrants was their lack of valid residency documents, which necessitated their deportation from the country. He also claimed that a large number of undocumented migrants have voluntarily returned to Afghanistan.

This Interior Ministry official stated that those who have voluntarily left Iran "can return to Iran with the necessary permits and if the conditions are met."

This comes as, since the beginning of the current year, tens of thousands of Afghan migrants have left Iran, either voluntarily or forcibly, and returned to their country.

Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, Deputy Minister of Interior of the Islamic Republic, says that after the deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran, some provinces have faced a shortage of labor.
