Russia: US return to Bagram base would have catastrophic consequences for Washington

Mr. Kabulov, on Monday, September 22, in an interview with the state-run media outlet Ria Novosti, added that the United States is unlikely to resort to military aggression.

He emphasized: "This issue is very similar to the hype surrounding Greenland and Canada; the consequences for the U.S. will be disastrous because Afghans are accustomed to war."

Donald Trump, the U.S. President, has recently insisted on returning and seizing the Bagram base and has demanded that the Taliban hand over the base to the U.S. soon. He has warned that if the Taliban do not agree to hand over the Bagram base, bad things will happen.

Trump has also highlighted the strategic importance of Bagram, stating that the base is only about an hour away from an area where China is developing nuclear weapons.

Following Trump's statements, Taj Mir Jawad, the Taliban's deputy intelligence chief, who is known as the main planner of the group's suicide operations, has announced that, if necessary to strengthen the regime, the Taliban will consider resuming such attacks.

The Bagram Airbase was the largest U.S. military base in Afghanistan until 2021 but was evacuated after the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the country.

Zamir Kabulov, Russia's special representative for Afghanistan, has stated regarding Trump's recent remarks about seizing the Bagram base that this decision would have catastrophic consequences for Washington.
