Zalmay Khalilzad: Abdul Malik, Prominent ISIS Khorasan Commander, Killed in Pakistan

Mr. Khalilzad, on Friday, August 29, wrote in a post on the social media platform X that Abdulmalik had previously survived several operations in Balochistan and played a key role in planning and directing significant attacks by ISIS-Khorasan.

According to him, this ISIS commander was targeted by local groups.

Khalilzad also noted that some accounts suggest the possible involvement of the Afghan Taliban in this incident. He emphasized that Abdulmalik held a significant position in coordinating and leading many of the group's operations in the region.

The former US representative added that in recent months, some ISIS-Khorasan leaders have established new bases in certain areas.

This comes as the international community has repeatedly warned about the presence and serious threat of ISIS in Afghanistan; however, the Taliban have consistently denied the presence of this group in Afghan territory.

Zalmay Khalilzad, the former US envoy for Afghanistan's peace process, has stated that Abdulmalik, a prominent figure in the Khorasan branch of ISIS, was killed on August 8 of this year in the Tangi Qambar Khel area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan.
