Ban on shaving beards in Kabul; Penalty of up to seven months in prison for violators

A source, who did not wish to be named, said in a call with Exile on Sunday: “If a barbershop is identified for trimming men’s beards, it will be sealed and locked.”

According to sources, on the first offense, the barbershop will be closed for three days; on the second offense, for ten days; and if repeated a third time, it will remain sealed and locked for up to seven months.

The source added that the Taliban treat barbers arrested for trimming beards with violence and only release them in exchange for a guarantee.

It is worth mentioning that previously, the enforcers of the Taliban’s Ministry of Virtue have severely restricted citizens’ individual and social freedoms by imposing strict limitations.

Local sources in Kabul tell Exile that the Taliban’s Ministry of Virtue has declared trimming men’s beards in barbershops prohibited.
