Trump: Gaza ceasefire holds, but Israel has right to respond if attacked

These statements came after Israeli airstrikes on Gaza on Tuesday killed 26 people. The strikes were carried out after Israel accused the Hamas group of violating the ceasefire.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office announced in a statement that Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered “intense and immediate attacks.”

The statement did not specify a reason for these attacks; however, an Israeli military official stated that the purpose of the strikes was to respond to a Hamas attack against Israeli forces in an area under Israeli control in the Gaza Strip.

Trump further stated: “As far as I know, they killed an Israeli soldier; therefore, the Israelis responded, and they had to respond. When something like this happens, it’s natural for them to react.”

He added: “Nothing is going to jeopardize the ceasefire. We must understand that Hamas is only a small part of the Middle East peace process and must act responsibly.”

Israel and Hamas have both accused each other of violating the ceasefire. The ceasefire agreement, mediated by Donald Trump on October 10, 2025, ended two years of Israeli war in Gaza; however, recent clashes have put this agreement at risk.

Donald Trump, President of the United States, said on Wednesday, October 29, aboard Air Force One in Jerusalem that the ceasefire in Gaza remains in place; however, Israel has the right to respond if Hamas attacks.
