Taliban Interior Ministry orders all administrative correspondence to be conducted in Pashto

Mufti Mohammad Salem Ebrat, the General Director of Inspection of the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, has issued a directive obligating the ministry’s employees to prepare all official documents, including letters, proposals, inquiries, reports, and other administrative correspondence, in Pashto.

According to sources, in an official meeting at the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, only three Persian-speaking provinces—Badakhshan, Panjshir, and Bamyan—were declared exempt from this order.

It is worth mentioning that since returning to power in August 2021, the Taliban has imposed extensive restrictions on the Persian (Dari) language. Among other measures, this group has removed the Persian language from the signboards of several government offices.

In continuation of the Taliban’s anti-Persian policies, the Inspection Directorate of the Ministry of Interior of this group has ordered that all administrative correspondence, except in Persian-speaking provinces, be conducted in Pashto.
