Taliban restrictions on women's work; Richard Bennett: Taliban should not be normalized

On Friday, 21 Sunbula, Mr. Bennett, in a message on his X page, referring to the Taliban's restrictions on women's work and their prevention of female aid workers from entering earthquake-affected areas, called on the group to lift these restrictions.

UNAMA had previously announced that on Sunday, 16 Sunbula, Taliban fighters prevented Afghan female employees from entering UN offices in the provinces of Kabul, Herat, and Mazar-i-Sharif.

According to reports, the Taliban, by stationing their fighters in front of UN offices in several provinces, warned female employees that they have no right to work at the UN or any other institution.

UNAMA also reported that the Taliban prevented its staff from traveling to earthquake-affected areas.

The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights, in response to these restrictions, stated that normalizing relations with the Taliban should be conditional on a change in the group's approach.

The United Nations has also warned that the continuation of this approach endangers the delivery of humanitarian and essential aid to women, children affected by the earthquake, and returnee migrants from Iran and Pakistan.

Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur, once again emphasized that Taliban should not be, pointing to restrictions on women's work.
