Yaqub Mujahid: We never want our relations with Pakistan to deteriorate

He emphasized that the Taliban seeks to maintain good neighborly relations, though he described the existing conditions as concerning. He added that both sides should find a solution to their differences to pave the way for greater cooperation.

Tensions between Kabul and Islamabad have escalated in recent months. Pakistani authorities claim that Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan fighters use Afghan soil for attacks, an accusation the Taliban has consistently denied.

In another part of his remarks, Yaqoob Mujahid called Islam a religion of “moderation” and said that extremism and negligence endanger its followers. He also dismissed any rumors of discord among Taliban leaders, stating that differences of opinion are natural but do not indicate a serious rift within the Taliban’s leadership ranks.

Analysts believe these statements are an attempt to present a softer image of the Taliban while also reflecting the group’s concerns about increasing political and security pressures at regional and international levels.

Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, the Taliban’s Defense Minister, in recent remarks to BBC Pashto, stated that the group does not wish for its relations with Pakistan to reach a stage of tension; however, he did not consider the current situation normal.
