Sources: Former Taliban Foreign Minister Detained in Qatar

According to sources, since late August, Zahid’s associates have been unable to contact him.

This senior Taliban official, who held significant positions during the first period of Taliban rule, has been active in commercial sectors for years and has frequently traveled to regional countries, including the UAE, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

Sources have confirmed that his detention took place in late August, and no official reason has been announced so far.

Reports indicate that a Taliban official in Doha has also confirmed Abdul Rahman Zahid’s detention and reported ongoing discussions with Qatari authorities.

In 2022, Abdul Rahman Zahid was appointed to a key position in the Taliban’s National Disaster Management Authority. He had previously faced similar issues in the UAE in past years and has even been subject to international sanctions.

However, the main motive behind the detention of this Taliban official remains unclear.

Reliable sources confirm that Abdul Rahman Zahid, the former deputy of the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar, has been detained in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
