An Islamic Republic official criticized the treatment of Afghan immigrants in Iran.

Khosropanah, on Sunday (12 Asad), criticized the treatment of Afghan migrants in Iran during a ceremony.

He said: "Accepting a large number of nationals at one point in time and then assuming that these migrants could pose a security threat and expelling them all at once is indicative of flawed governance in the field of migration."

Khosropanah added: Just as an Iranian might commit a crime or mistake, a migrant might do the same.

He emphasized that a crime committed by one migrant should not be attributed to all Afghan migrants.

According to him, the current treatment of Afghan nationals is not the stance of the system but the policy of the government.

Previously, the office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reported that officials of the former government, former military personnel, civil activists, journalists, and human rights defenders who are forcibly returned to Afghanistan face threats, torture, and detention by the Taliban.

This comes as, in recent months, the expulsion of Afghan migrants from Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey has significantly increased.

Abdulhossein Khosropanah, head of Iran's Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, says the mass expulsion of Afghan migrants is a sign of poor governance in the field of migration.
