Aghbar: Taliban will not survive without domestic legitimacy

On Tuesday, he referred to the Taliban delegation’s recent trips to Pakistan and India on the social media platform X, stating: These efforts have come to an end, and now the Taliban must understand their true position on the international stage. Instead of continuing fruitless efforts, the Taliban should respect the will of the Afghan people and human values.

These statements come as four years have passed since the Taliban’s return to power; yet, the Afghan people continue to face widespread restrictions in political, social, and economic spheres.

The closure of school and university gates to girls, restrictions on freedom of expression, and the suppression of media are cited as the most significant concerns of citizens and human rights organizations.

Despite the Taliban’s efforts to establish foreign relations, this group has not been recognized by any country except Russia so far. Analysts say that the continuation of this situation keeps Afghanistan in political and economic isolation and sets the stage for an escalating humanitarian crisis.

Zahir Aghbar, Afghanistan’s ambassador and representative in Tajikistan, has warned that the Taliban will not be able to sustain power without gaining internal legitimacy and addressing the legitimate demands of the people.
