Widespread internet slowdown following damage to submarine cables in the Red Sea

Technical sources say several strands of international cables in the Red Sea waters have encountered issues; however, the exact cause of this incident remains unclear.

Microsoft has warned that users in the Middle East may face increased delays in accessing online services.

Meanwhile, the monitoring organization "NetBlocks" has reported the spread of this disruption in countries such as India and Pakistan, identifying the location of the damage near the coasts of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Although Saudi and UAE authorities have not yet officially confirmed the issue, UAE citizens have reported a noticeable drop in internet speeds. Kuwaiti authorities have also reported the outage of another cable in their country's waters and its consequences for users.

Experts say undersea cables are sometimes damaged due to ship collisions or security incidents, and their repair process can take weeks. In recent months, some reports had suggested that these lines might have been targeted during Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, although the group has denied any connection to such incidents.

A new disruption in the internet network has caused parts of Asia and the Middle East to experience reduced speeds and intermittent outages.
