Deadly earthquake in the east; Richard Bennett expresses sympathy to the families of the victims

Mr. Bennett, on Monday (10 Shahrivar), issued a message on the social media platform X, expressing his condolences and wishing success to the organizations and relief agencies responding to the affected individuals from this event.


He wrote: "I woke up to the news of the devastating earthquake in Kunar province. My condolences to the affected families and communities. I wish strength and success to the rescue forces."


It is worth noting that this deadly earthquake occurred around 12 midnight last night in eastern Afghanistan. The epicenter was in Nangarhar province, near Asadabad, with a depth of 27 kilometers and a magnitude of six on the Richter scale.


Following this event, at least 500 people in Kunar province have lost their lives and another thousand have been injured. Taliban officials in Nangarhar have also announced that at least 10 people were killed in that province and several others injured.


The Taliban added that the death toll is likely to rise.

Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Afghanistan, expressed condolences to the families affected by the devastating earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan last night.
