Iranian official: Six million Afghan refugees are present in Iran

Iskandar Mu'mani, on (Wednesday, 28th of Saratan), told journalists on the sidelines of the Cabinet meeting that one and a half million Afghan migrants have been expelled from Iran.


Iranian domestic media, quoting the Minister of Interior, reported that the border security situation is appropriate and the security situation in this country has improved in most indicators compared to last year.


Iskandar Mu'mani emphasized: "We have said that we are not anti-migrant, but resources and facilities are no longer sufficient."


He had previously stated that by the end of the current solar year, approximately two million other migrants will also be expelled to Afghanistan.


The United Nations and human rights organizations have consistently stated that migrants, upon returning to Afghanistan, face lack of access to education, humanitarian crisis, famine, and severe deterioration of living conditions.

The Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Republic has announced that six million Afghan citizens are present in Iran.
