US expands travel ban to more than 30 countries

She added: "More than 30 countries will be included in this ban, and the president is still evaluating countries."

Meanwhile, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, issued an order in June that banned the entry of citizens from 12 countries to America and restricted the entry of citizens from 7 other countries. He said this action is necessary to protect against "foreign terrorists" and other security threats. These bans apply to both immigrants and non-immigrants such as tourists, students, and businesspeople.

The U.S. government's immigration measures intensified after two National Guard members were targeted in a shooting by a 29-year-old Afghan immigrant last week; an immigrant who had entered the U.S. in 2021 through the resettlement program.

A few days after this shooting, Trump pledged to "permanently halt" immigration from "all Third World countries." However, he did not name any specific country and provided no clear definition of "Third World countries."

Previously, officials from the Department of Homeland Security had stated that Trump had ordered a comprehensive review of approved asylum cases from the period of Democratic President Joe Biden, as well as a review of green cards issued to citizens of 19 countries.

Kristi Noem, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, said in a television interview with Fox News on Thursday, December 4, that the United States intends to increase the number of countries subject to the travel ban to more than 30 countries.
