Nay in Exile: No Country is as Deadly for Journalists as Afghanistan

NI in Exile reports that Afghanistan has currently turned into a large prison for its people, and especially for journalists and media workers; a prison without a roof; but with tall walls that have left no way out for its residents.

NI has expressed concern that all remaining journalists in Afghanistan are trying to escape from this large prison; but they neither have the possibility nor are they given permission to leave.

This organization supporting journalists, on Tuesday (December 8), issued a statement referencing the report by Reporters Without Borders, warning that the Taliban have turned the media inside the country into their propaganda tools.

NI in Exile says that Afghanistan under Taliban control has become the largest prison for journalists in the world and no country is as dangerous for journalists as Afghanistan.

This organization supporting Afghan media has written: "No geography and no country in the world is as dangerous and deadly for journalists and media workers as Afghanistan."

The organization stated that the Taliban exploit journalists and media inside Afghanistan solely to advance their propaganda goals and group interests. According to this organization, freedom of expression in Afghanistan has been practically destroyed.

NI in Exile has emphasized that the silence and inattention of international suggestions to the situation of media in Afghanistan amounts to whitewashing the Taliban and indirectly legitimizing this group.

Reporters Without Borders had previously warned in its annual report that journalism in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan faces extensive censorship and severe suppression.

According to this organization supporting journalists, since the Taliban's return to power, more than 165 media activists have been detained by the Taliban, 25 of whom were imprisoned only in 2025.

Currently, at least 10 journalists, including Hamid Farhadi, Mehdi Ansari, and Shakib Ahmad Nazari, are in Taliban captivity.
