Security Council meeting to be held on ongoing Afghan crisis

This session comes amid growing concerns in the international community regarding the human rights situation, humanitarian crises, and terrorist threats in the country.

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has stated that the session will begin at 7:30 p.m. Kabul time and will address a wide range of political, human rights, economic, and social issues related to Afghanistan.

In previous sessions, most Security Council members have expressed concern over the Taliban's policies and the restrictions imposed on people's rights, particularly those of women and girls; however, the Taliban believe that international sessions without their representatives are ineffective and have emphasized the need for direct engagement by world countries with their regime.

The United Nations Security Council announced that on Wednesday, 19 Qaws (November 10), it will hold a special session to review the latest developments in Afghanistan.
