Sources: Taliban forcibly close Mahbubeh Siraj's safe house

According to reports, this safe house was a local facility for women and children who were victims of violence, and 33 people lived there.

Mahbouba Seraj, who was one of the few female activists close to the Taliban and an advocate for engagement with this group, expressed anger and disappointment in a message and said: "My heart is broken and I have lost my battle." She emphasized that preserving this safe house was not only her personal battle, but the struggle of many Afghan women.

In the past two decades, dozens of safe houses operated in Kabul and the provinces, where women without guardians and victims of violence could seek shelter along with their children. After the Taliban's return, some female activists and human rights defenders also received support and shelter from these houses, and several international organizations provided assistance to these centers.

Meanwhile, Mahbouba Seraj cooperated and engaged with the Taliban, always defended their provision of security and governance, and in international meetings and media announced her support for dialogue and cooperation with the Taliban. These positions had faced widespread criticism from women's rights activists, and some had accused her of whitewashing the Taliban.

Local sources in Kabul say that the Taliban forcibly closed a safe house belonging to Mahbouba Seraj, a women's rights activist, in Kabul.
