Former ISI chief Faiz Hamid sentenced to 14 years in prison

Hameed's trial began on August 12, 2024, and involved four key charges, including participation in political activities, violation of security and official secrets laws, misuse of government resources and authority, and causing unlawful harm and damage to individuals. The Pakistan Army has stated that he has been convicted on all charges and has the right to appeal in a military court.

Faiz Hameed was an influential figure in the Pakistan Army and, due to his closeness to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, played a significant role in ISI policies. He traveled to Kabul in the first days of the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan, which drew widespread reactions.

During his tenure, there were deep differences between Hameed and former Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa, and these differences have been cited as one of the main reasons for his replacement in the ISI.

The Pakistan Army has emphasized that Faiz Hameed enjoyed all legal rights during the trial, including having a defense team of his own choosing.

The Pakistan Army announced on Thursday that Faiz Hameed, the former chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment following a 15-month trial in a military court for engaging in political activities and violating the Official Secrets Act.
