Tehran to host regional meeting on Afghanistan next week

Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has said that special representatives from Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, China, and Russia will attend this meeting.

According to him, the summit will be held in late Qaws (November/December), although the exact date has not yet been specified.

Iran says the aim of this summit is to help promote regional stability and reduce recent disputes between the Taliban and Pakistan; disputes that have severely strained relations between the two sides in recent weeks. Tehran has previously attempted to mediate between the two countries as well, but no results have been achieved.

At the same time, Iran's representative at the United Nations has warned of the increasing activity of extremist groups in Afghanistan and emphasized that without the formation of an inclusive government, the crisis in the country will continue.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has announced that it will host a regional summit on the situation in Afghanistan in the coming days; a summit in which one of the main focuses is stated to be reducing tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan.
